Phew, it’s roasting in Oxford at the moment, not that I’m complaining – I love this kind of weather. Long may it continue!

I finally got around to taking some photos of my latest invite creations, and I’m so pleased with how they turned out! Many hours of painstaking work went into these which I designed from scratch (except the monogram, which was provided by the bride and groom). The invite is double sided, and even the envelopes received some gocco treatment too! I designed them for an Italian couple after the lovely Silvia recommended me. Thanks Silvia! What do you think?

Twigs & Honey loveliness

Huge thanks to Myra of Twigs & Honey for making my day by featuring Paperleaf on her blog! Myra made my hairpiece (below) for our wedding last year and it was one of my absolute favourite things about the whole day!

Myra has also used a photo of me on her fantastic new website, which is really cool in a semi-embarrassing way… Check me out! If you’re in need of a custom wedding accessory, visit Myra’s website and Etsy shop and check out the prettiness, but be sure to get in early – she’s hugely popular and gets booked up months ahead. I especially love her boutonnieres – if there is one thing I would have done differently for our wedding it would be to have got some of these for our guys – these below would have gone perfectly with our yellow and brown polka dot theme! Ah well, next time maybe

Ugh, I hate wedding videos with a passion. Let me just say that before I say anything else. 90% of the time they’re cheesy, boring, self-indulgent and a complete waste of money in my opinion. Back in the spring, in the midst of planning our wedding, all of my favourite wedding porn* was raging about the next big thing – super 8 wedding videos. Everyone including Mrs Onion was doing it – and it looked kind of cool! I wanted one, and convinced the Mr that he did too! I started to look around for some companies, and I found a few based in the UK but they were so ridiculously expensive that they would have eaten up over half of our entire budget. Nevermind I thought, we’ll do it ourself – how hard can it be? We were already doing most of the wedding ourselves (pretty much everything except the catering and the photography was diy-ed) so this would be yet another fun wedding project. Never mind that I have no knowledge of film-making, editing, technical stuff, etc. Oh no. Lack of knowledge didn’t stop me making my wedding dress, did it?!

Andy is too modest to allow me to say how awesome he was on the day. But he was fab! And I hate to think how many hours he then spent editing, mixing and working his magic, especially with all my anal comments about swapping 18:35-18:41 with 18:41-18:47 etc. When we finally received the dvd proof we were just amazed and really quite emotional – he had managed to capture the absolute essence of the day, and even though we adored our photos the video really added something extra special to our memories, and we’ll treasure it for ever.

Anyway, without further ado, may I present…. our wedding!

Handmade wedding

Our wedding in July was full of crafty goodness! This was partly due to necessity (ie budget) and partly because we wanted to create a unique and personal day that we will remember forever. Everything that we could DIY, we did! Since we held the ceremony and reception at our university, the only real vendor we dealt with was our wonderful photographer. Pretty much everything else was DIY, apart from a few Etsy purchases!

The invitations (made by me – these were the inspiration for PaperLeaf!)

The dress (made by moi). My headpiece was by the fabulous Myra Kim of Twigs & Honey at Etsy. The necklace is my grandmothers and my other jewellery was by Basil the Cat at Etsy.

The flowers (by my wonderfully talented sister-in-law/bridesmaid Mina)

The cake (a team effort involving several lovely friends, my mum and me)

The favours (cookies, baked in advance by me and the husband), in Gocco’d bags!

Finally, Thabs did the reception/party music in iTunes so we didn’t need a DJ. Phew! A lot of hard work, but absolutely worth it! Is anyone else having a DIY wedding?
