Remember last week I mentioned that my stationery supplies for some wedding invites hadn’t turned up? Well, by this Wednesday they still hadn’t arrived and I began to get worried. I phoned my supplier who gave me the Parcelforce tracking number, which according to the website, had been delivered last Thursday at 8.38am and signed for by me! Erm, noooooooo it wasn’t!! Many phonecalls between the supplier and the Parcelforce depot ensued… The parcel was destined for my college, since the reception is open 9-5 it’s safer than getting things that need a signature delivered to our flat… Well, to cut a long story short, as it arrived before the college opened, there wasn’t anyone around to sign for it so the driver took it upon himself to enter my name into his handheld gizmo, sign for it himself in a totally illegible signature and leave my parcel down a side alleyway underneath the smoking shelter. I KID YOU NOT! It had been there all week, and it was only after watching the CCTV footage that this became apparent, and I was beyond furious. Fuming! I have a hate-hate relationship with Royal Mail, and it drives me mad that they whine and grumble when privatisation is mentioned, because they’re a “public service” and can do a much better job than a private company. Well I don’t think a private company would last 5 minutes if they started signing for recorded delivery packages themselves and leaving them outside! Luckily it didn’t get wet so this weekend I WILL be a printing machine! Thank goodness for lovely understanding customers!
OK rant over, sorry, just had to get that off my chest..
have a great weekend!

oh dear..the same with the italian posts
no comments..it’s better
everything ok now darling?
Oh my god, that is terrible! I hope you’re going to send the CCTV footage to the Royal Mail along with a letter of complaint? x
That’s terrible, but not that suprising. The amount of times I’ve had postcards popped through my letterbox saying that they had attempted to deliver a parcel and I was actually standing in the hallway when the postcards came through – they never bothered to ring the doorbell as they didn’t even have the package with them. I know this as I’ve often confronted them as soon as the postcard has been posted through the letterbox. They try and get away with it so they don’t have to heft parcels around in the morning, but then I have to waste time and fuel driving to the local depot to colelct the parcel myself. I don’t get paid for the priveledge of delivering it myself. Drives me nuts. I would send the CCTV footage to Royal Mail and demand an explanation.
Thanks ladies!! I’m expecting a call from the depot manager tomorrow so will see what he has to say…
Milomade – that’s also happened to me, except they just leave packages outside the front door, even though I’ve been in at the time, they just can’t be bothered to knock. Just yesterday I rescued a huge box from outside my next-door neighbour’s flat, they’re away and the postman had just left it there, even though I was in and would have gladly accepted it for them.
I’m STILL raging about this!!! I cannot believe these idiots think they can get away with this.

This is an interesting story… I am relieved that you managed to get your parcel in the end but this still doesn’t stop what you have mentioned going on. I really don’t understand why Royal Mail/Parcel Force staff are so short of common sense. I too have had a parcel left on my doorstep. Problem was that someone else got to it before i did and i only found the remains of the parcel in the front garden, otherwise i would have never known.
Reading this I am now wondering if this is what has happened to some supplies I ordered on March 7th. I wonder if the delivery guy just took it upon himself to sign the sheet himself and leave the parcel somewhere for it to be stolen. I haven be battling with the company who sent the supplies asking for a refund as i haven’t received anything. So i’m wondering if they think i’m lying (i.e because someone else signed the delivery sheet).
Ack sorry for rabbiting on. But your post may help me find out what has happened!
That’s terrible! I’m shocked – I knew RM could be bad, but not that bad! Puts you off using them, though I much prefer to try and support them. Kinda hard though when their service is bad and prices high!
And milomade, that’s happened to me on more than one occasion, with the Red Card of Doom pushed through the letterbox while I’ve been home.
I hope they don’t sack the driver – then all his colleagues will go on holiday/strike again in support of the way he was unfairly treated. I too dislike our postal service for similar reasons…
Wow –that is so bad, how do companies survive this awful ‘Royal Mail’ thing. I used e.bay to buy some IR lights and they did not arrive, and the company were good enough to lose money and post them again, they had not sent them recorded. I felt terrible, as I know this was probably the profit for 10 sales all wasted –and the time. Luckily many of our cards are small enough to go through letter boxes, but big ones won’t — hope this does not happen to them.
